Life of Lu: post wedding fever...

I have just returned home to Edinburgh after one of the best weekends of my life. I know I wrote a post earlier about heading to Ireland for the wedding, but I didn't realise quite how affected I would be watching Nicola walk down the aisle. The cousins on the O'Dwyer side are a tight knit bunch. We always enjoy each others company, none of us is ever really the 'sensible' one, we are all up for trying anything once, and over the years we have become better at getting our parents to join in with our antics! Of all the cousins in my dad's family, actually of all my cousins across both sides, I have most contact with Nic. She is probably the closest I have to a sister since my own sister passed away.
The morning of the wedding was frantic. There is a saga with the mass booklets that I shall tell many of you over a pint when I recall the weekend in the future. All was well, we managed to have 100 booklets at the church with five minutes to spare (and I got to see a p…

Love love love...

Love is in the air folks!
Can you feel it?  Can you feel it??

I am currently on my way to Cork in Ireland for my cousin Nicola's wedding.  I have always been very close to Nic as she is only two months older than me.  Tomorrow she hands in her O'Dwyer badge of honour and walks away with a Stapleton on her arm and in her signature.  Swoon....

If that isn't exciting enough, our cousin Roisin who is two months older than Nicola and the third member of our cousin muskateer unit is getting married in three weeks!  Eek! It is too much excitement for a singleton like me to sustain.  At the moment the bulk of my emotion is divided between my spotify playlist and grilled houllimi for tea.

As huge as these two weddings are,  there is something happening this weekend which is one of the most important things to happen in the motherland.  Today,  Ireland is voting on marriage equality. I am devastated that I am in the country but unable to vote.  How wonderful would it be to say that …

Life of Lu 18/05/15

I rather enjoy my little thankfuls and this week I feel as though I have a lot more to be thankful for than normal. 1. I am thankful for my bonus. I thought I wasn't going to get a bonus this year, and got a phonecall on Tuesday night from my boss telling me that I was getting one this Friday after all. Because I wasn't expecting it I have been able to put it to good use, namely putting a down payment on my trip to America this October for my friend's wedding. Not only that, I get to see my pals in Utah whom I haven't seen in nearly 8 years! Not only was I able to do that, I was able to donate to my friend's theatre group and help her reach her target to put on her first production! Delighted doesn't even cover it!!
2. I am thankful for my Utah pals. I got such a great reception when I told them I was coming to visit. The girls got a bit carried away with their plans to find me a husband so I stay in the States, but other than that the conversation was one fil…

If music be the food of love, play on...

Music should strike fire from the heart of man, and bring tears form the eyes of woman.
Ludwig van Beethoven

The most glorious thing happened this morning. I had a sleep in. In fact, I am still having a sleep in. It is 09.34 and I am tucked under my duvet, with spotify on and a crisp new book ready to be opened beside me. I have my spotify on a random station, and a song that I purposely have never saved came on and made me cry. When I say cry, I mean I properly sobbed. When the song finished I was fine. It got me thinking about music and the power it has over the human mind and if you are a believer in it, the human soul.

A friend of mine once introduced me to an album that is rather symbolic of a particular time in his life and I thought it was a great thing to have. I may even have felt a bit jealous that I didn't have one. This mornings reaction to Katie Melua. Yes, you read that right, Katie Melua, got me thinking about music that causes a reaction in me and why that is. I hav…
